CADTH Rapid Response Cited in Journal of the Canadian Dental Association

July 12, 2011

A letter to the editor published in the Journal of the Canadian Dental Association describes how CADTH was able to shed new light on a commonly held belief in dentistry that patients who lose weight require denture relines or remakes. The letter notes that CADTH performed a thorough review using strict criteria and, without bias, was able to show that there is no proof that losing weight affects denture fit and stability.

CMAJ Cites CADTH Report on Reprocessing of Single-use Medical Devices

July 4, 2011

The Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) recently published an article that cites CADTH’s survey report on reprocessing of single-use devices (SUDs). Entitled “Reprocessing single-use devices: An international perspective ,” the CMAJ article also quotes Julie Polisena, Clinical Research Manager at CADTH and the lead author of the CADTH survey report. The survey collected information from hundreds of acute-care hospitals in Canada and found that most hospitals (72%) do not reprocess SUDs. Of the 28% of responding hospitals that reprocess SUDs, most do so in house, but do not have a written policy to govern the practice.

CADTH’s survey report, an accompanying report on the issues regarding SUD reprocessing, and summaries of the research can be found here: Reprocessing Single-Use Medical Devices in Canada.
